ReturnWe saw this total solar eclipse from the deck of the ms Veendam near Aruba at 12 deg 34 min N, 69 deg 31 min W. Totality lasted 3 min 37 sec. Because we were on a moving ship exposure times had to be kept as short as possible and I concentrated on photographing the solar promenences ("flames") which are relatively bright. This image shows the very last bit of the Sun's surface disappearing behind the Moon. Lens: 600mm f/6 AP Traveler with 2X converter (1200mm f/12). Film: Ektachrome 100. Shutter speed: 1/500 sec. Image scanned from slide.
