The Basement is Installed

December 16, 1997. You can see the truck with the wall panels on it. The walls are made in Pennsylvania and shipped down in one day. It took 12 days from the day we ordered the walls to the day they installed them. A typical wall panel weighs about 5000 pounds. The crane takes the panels off the truck and puts them in place.
The walls are mostly in place here. They are 8'2" tall and are about 10 inches thick. The wall is composed of a concrete "sheet," a layer of insulation, and then concrete 2x6's on the inside. The concrete studs have a furring strip of wood on them so that drywall can easily be attached if the inside is to be finished. The panels are sealed to each other with very tough caulking and then bolted together at the top and bottom.
The walls are complete. The little "shelves" sticking out of the sides are the brick ledges for the house siding. The whole job of installation took only about 5 hours.
